In this article I will show you the different drypoints sold in the webshop.
A) Ranges
The points come in two types. A « technical » range and a « luxury » range.
Technical range
The points of the « technical » range are made of beech wood and small batches. There may be slight differences between the point you receive and the one pictured. It’s an entirely technical point: emphasis is put upon the quality of the metal and ergonomics of the point. The points are sold with a protective felt pouch. The diamond points also come with a magnetic fastening.
Luxury range
The points from the « luxury » range retain all the characteristics of the technical range, but are unique pieces made with precious wood. They all come with a magnetic fastening. You will receive the model taken in the photo. A unique point to participate in your creative process.
B) The types of points
There are three types of point available: the steel points, carbide points and diamond points.
The steel points are made with a quality steel (a high speed steel called HSS). This is normally a steel used for metal machine tools (drilling, turning). This steel allows extremely fine and durable sharpening. The HSS will not rust in ambient humidity.
The carbide points are made of tungsten carbide. This is an extremely hard material (only diamonds and ceramics are harder) and inerte (no risk of rusting). Its hardness is even greater than the HSS which is naturally intended for drypoint on copper. The wooden body is reinforced by a steel tube.
The diamond points use an industrial diamond which allows greater flexibility for drawing. This point excels at playing with shades of gray and is used like a pencil.
